Scott chooses a play based on who has signed up for the course. You play as cast, working from 13.00 to 18.00 for three Sundays, making discoveries on the way.
There’s no obligation to learn lines (unless you want to) and on the final Sunday, you share those discoveries with an invited audience – fellow students, friends, colleagues, anyone you choose to invite.

For our returning students, the enrollment process is streamlined for your convenience. As you're already part of the Impulse family, there's no need for another conversation or questionnaire. Simply select your desired course and enroll directly. We're excited to have you back and continue your journey with us, building on the skills and experiences you've already acquired.
There are 3 sessions in total - an afternoon and evening session on a weekday, and a Saturday class. New information is introduced on the Saturday. We suggest attending all 3 to get the most out of the training, but understand that is not always possible, in which case you could attend one of the single weekday sessions (3.30pm or 6pm) and the Saturday. It is not advised to miss the Saturday session.
Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you have access to all three modules at a time that suits you. Whilst most people tend to do their 3 modules one after the other, occasionally an actor may book a job, or life happens, and you need to put it on hold. Let us know that you need to defer, and when you would like to jump back in, and we will find a place for you.
We use Wise for our international payments, and can accept payments by card and/or in Euros and US and Australian dollars as well as sterling. Contact us if you wish to pay in another currency. Read more about paying by credit card with Wise.
The course is divided into three modules of eight weeks each. The course is designed to give you all the information you need during one weekday session plus the Saturday session. You are, however, welcome to attend both weekday sessions depending on your availability. Our focus is on offering you high quality information rather than the quantity of time we take to do it, so classes may run longer or shorter on occasion.
The course is designed and taught by Impulse Artistic Director Scott Williams with occasional substitution, principally by Trine Garrett, Jacqui-Lee Pryce or Michael Gilhooley.
Class sizes vary from year to year but are unlikely to consist of more than 20 people. Between eight and 15 has been the average over the 20 years we’ve been running the course.
Because the Technique is experiential, classes are practical and are, we believe, unique in the amount of personal tuition and feedback you’ll receive.
The majority of students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully. Even if you’ve done an introductory course with us, or elsewhere, it can only give you a flavour of what the Technique can deliver.
Students who have already have a significant body of experience with The Impulse Company may begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity, with Scott’s agreement.
