Module 1: Living Truthfully, Meisner Foundations

There are no pre-requisites to begin your Module 1 training with us.

Begin your Meisner training with a solid foundation.

Do you want to get out of your head?

Are you looking for a reliable, practical acting technique?

Are you looking for a deeply joyful, authentic process that allows you to become fully present in your body and responsive to your partner?

Do you want to revive the love you have for your craft?

Our Meisner training follows a modular format to accommodate the unpredictable nature of an actor's career and personal life; you can pick up a module when the timing is right, to align with new projects, roles, or necessary breaks, ensuring a balance between professional commitments and your learning journey.

Module 1: "Living Truthfully" covers our Meisner-rooted Technique, giving you a deep and experiential grounding in its analysis and exercises, focusing on those which bring you into 'the moment.'

FAQs

Who are the course tutors? (AU)

The course is designed by Impulse Artistic Director Scott Williams, and taught by our Australian faculty who have trained with Scott as both actors and teachers - with Sam Smith and Matt Minto in Sydney, and Erica Chestnut in Melbourne.

What happens if I need to defer a Module?

Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you have access to all three modules at a time that suits you. Whilst most people tend to do their 3 modules one after the other, occasionally an actor may book a job, or life happens, and you need to put it on hold. Let us know that you need to defer, and when you would like to jump back in, and we will find a place for you.

How big are the class sizes?

Class sizes vary, but are unlikely to consist of more than 20 people. Between eight and 15 has been the average over the 20 years that we’ve been training actors.

Because the Technique is experiential, classes are practical and are, we believe, unique in the amount of personal tuition and feedback you’ll receive.

Where do I begin with the Year-Long course?

The majority of students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully. Even if you’ve done an introductory course with us, or elsewhere, it can only give you a flavour of what the Technique can deliver.

Students who have already have a significant body of experience with The Impulse Company may begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity, with Scott’s agreement.
